Now Hiring: Interim Executive Director

This one-year contract is a full-time, hybrid role, maintaining an onsite office in the Cambridge Women's Center. Evenings and weekends are necessary to complement our site's programming and event hours, as well as represent CWC in the community. 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Interim ED will oversee the strategic planning, operational management, and financial oversight of the organization. 

Primary responsibilities include

  • Advocate for the organization.

  • Liaise with the Board of Directors.

  • Hire and mentor staff. 

  • Support programming and appreciate volunteers. 

  • Manage fiscal and daily operations.

  • Partner with local and regional community allies.

  • Engage and steward donors.

This role will hire and/or supervise:

  • Director of Programs  

  • Manager of Development & Outreach (to be hired)

  • Consultants (Bookkeeper) 

The Interim ED will also be the primary liaison with major donors, community partners, media, and others.

Key ResponsibilitieS

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

  • Collaborate with the Board, staff, and community members to develop a multi-year strategic plan aligned with CWC’s mission and evolving community needs.

  • Strategize with the Director of Programs to ensure that CWC’s core programs are consistently delivered with high quality, impact, and inclusivity.

  • Identify opportunities for new initiatives that align with community needs and organizational growth.

Financial Growth & Sustainability

  • Hire the Manager of Development & Outreach and develop a fundraising strategy, ensuring CWC meets its annual $400,000-$500,000 budget.

  • Oversee financial management working with the part-time bookkeeper and Board Treasurer, ensuring compliance with accounting best practices, donor reporting, and tax regulations.

  • Establish financial controls to mitigate risk and ensure the long-term sustainability of CWC.

  • Identify major donors, funders, businesses, elected officials, grassroots activists, and key allies for relationship development

  • Review role and/or use of volunteers, interns, and in-kind resources to support CWC’s mission.

Operations & Personnel Management

  • Directly supervise and support CWC’s staff and consultants, fostering a collaborative management culture with clear accountability.

  • Oversee the hiring, compensation, and performance management of all CWC staff.

  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements in partnership with the Board of Directors. 

  • Support principles of justice, equity, inclusion, and belonging (JEDI) into every aspect of CWC’s operations and programs.

Who You Are: Key Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of progressive experience leading an organization through a period of transitional growth in the nonprofit sector or comparable management experience in a mission-driven organization.

  • Has fractional and/or interim leadership experience, including with internal and external constituents.

  • Keen ability to think "outside of the box" and challenge current thinking while fostering open communication to balance multiple perspectives.

  • Proven writer with a portfolio of strategic planning, proactive marketing and communications, and fundraising grants and appeals.  

  • Proven experience in financial management, with the ability to create and interpret financial documents.

  • Tactile manager skilled at defining and implementing effective and efficient operational best practices, processes, and polices. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, MailChimp, Meta Business Suite, Squarespace, and QuickBooks (or other financial management application).

  • Resident of the Greater Boston area, with knowledge of the Cambridge community, including its residents, businesses and organizations, educational institutions, etc.

  • Languages of our community: English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Portuguese. 

  • Masters-level education preferred. 

Work Environment

  • You’ll have access to a private office, but some work will take place in shared spaces with other community members.

  • CWC’s onsite atmosphere includes background noise (e.g., conversations, music, occasional construction sounds).

  • You’re expected to be on-site at least 60% of the time to foster team collaboration and stay connected to CWC’s members and activities, including during drop-in hours at least once per month.

Compensation & Benefits

  • One-year contract: $90K-100K, based on experience. 

  • One-year benefits include employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance.
